Provenance

The documented origin and chain of custody of a product — where it was made, from what, by whom, and how it reached the consumer.

Provenance is the consumer-readable narrative built on top of supply-chain data (EPCIS events, supplier certifications, sustainability audits). For luxury, food, wine and craft goods it is increasingly a purchase driver, not just a compliance footnote.

Digital Product Passports formalise provenance by giving it a structured home — every claim is tied to a verifiable identifier rather than living only in marketing copy.
